Teoman's Band of the Month - The Mad Capsule Markets

The last time I talked about The Mad Capsule Markets (or MCM) was on my first blog where I got to review one of their album 010 which was a pretty good album in itself, but overall not as hardcore as the previous Osc-Dis.
The Mad Capsule Markets are:
-Kyono (Vocals)
-Takeshi Ueda (Bassist, Programmer, Vocals)
-Motokatsu Miyagami (Drums)
Well what can I say about Mad? The first time I heard of them was on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 soundtrack, there was a catchy song with fast drum n bass patterns and heavy distorted guitars. At that time I was on KaZaA and I wanted to download some songs from the soundtrack. That's how I got to know bands like The Reverend Horton Heat, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, The NextMen, and of course The Mad Capsule Markets.
At first they started off as punk and their first albums completely lacked of all the electronica jazz that can be heard in their latest albums. There was a bigger presence of bass though. Slowly since the early 90s they have changed their style, first as Berrie, and opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and it was in April 1990 that they changed their name to The Mad Capsule Markets.
Some people wonder why they are always three in their pictures whilst you always see them as four in their videos. The reason for that is that the guitarist of the band, TORUxxx, is not the official guitarist and is just the support guitarist of the band. It was from that moment that their style changed from punk to punk-metal-fusion-techno soup.
When asked what their influences were, each member mentioned a different style and said to have grown up listening to different styles of music; Ueda used to listen to Punk, Kyono listened to a lot of Hip-Hop and Miyagami was more into japanese techno.
Unfortunately since March 31st 2006 mad are on a hiatus, and I never feel good about hiati. If they decide to actually break up it would mean the end of a unique band that has made my love for Japan bigger, and who deserved bigger fame (just not too much!)
But I'd be left with the memories of their best music and fun times riding the Tunisian desert with sand bumps in a jeep, blasting out their music!
